The Neighborhood of Foxfire in Sarasota is considered to be a throwback to a very prosperous real estate era in Southwest Florida. Foxfire is made up of two major subdivisions located along I-75 between Proctor Road and Clark Road. This residential community dates back to the 1980s, and thus it offers spacious single-family homes built on very generous lots.
During the initial stages of Foxfire, the developers marketed their residential project as a remote neighborhood with a rural ambiance where homeowners could enjoy an equestrian lifestyle. To this day, homeowners are allowed to build structures such as stables and small barns to keep up to four horses per family, and there are private roads that wind through mature forest patches, thus being very adequate for horseback riding.
These days, Foxfire can hardly be described as a remote, rural neighborhood. Easy access to I-75 by means of Proctor Road means that residents only have to drive a few minutes to visit commercial districts or to travel to Downtown Sarasota and the white sands of Siesta Beach. Still, Foxfire is a very quiet and discreet neighborhood that is ideal for raising a family.
As can be expected, quite a few Florida ranch-style homes can be found in Foxfire. House hunters can expect to find lot sizes greater than two acres with at least three bedrooms. Quite a few of the single-family residences were built as spec homes, and thus it is not unusual to run into unique details such as fireplaces, stone walls, guest houses, gazebos, etc. Most listings start around $500K, except for empty lots available for construction.
At one point, Foxfire neighbors enjoyed their own golf course, which closed down decades ago and was sold to a residential developer in 2006. Instead of fairways, residents now enjoy more vegetation and wildlife; it is not unusual for riders or hikers to run into deer on the trails. A few homes feature a waterfront view thanks to a large lake in the center of the community.
