When American circus magnate John Ringling thought about transforming his beloved Sarasota into a Mediterranean seaside villa, Hudson Bayou was pretty much what he had in mind. Although a sudden economic downturn prevented John Ringling from seeing his real estate dream come alive, he would have been proud to see the quiet elegance of Hudson Bayou.
In the Hudson Bayou subdivision, home buyers will only find eight residential estates and three low-rise condominiums resembling a Mediterranean resort. The neighborhood begins just across the water from the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens and spans east towards Osprey Avenue. The waterfront estates are historic and imposing; some even feature their own names. The two-story condominiums have eight units each, and homeowners enjoy a parking garage plus an outside parking spot. Some properties have private dock space, and there is a kayak launch nearby.
Despite being very close to Downtown Sarasota, Hudson Bayou is a very quiet neighborhood. For being a very small subdivision, real estate can go very fast due to their reduced prices. A three-bedroom and two-bathroom condominium unit with an interior of 1,362 square feet was listed during the summer of 2014 under $575K. Considering that this is an exclusive waterfront community located very close to Downtown Sarasota, the price is very reasonable. Even better deals come on the market from time to time, but it does not take long before they get to the closing table.
Hudson Bayou is also one of a few neighborhoods where students can walk or ride their bicycles to public schools. This neighborhood is served by Southside Elementary, Brookside Middle and Sarasota High Schools. All the amenities and cultural activities of the Sarasota Arts District are within walking distance, and this includes shops, bistros, pubs, boutiques, shopping centers, and more. The beaches of Siesta Key are certainly within biking distance, and there are many golf courses, racquet clubs and city parks to enjoy nearby.
