John Ringling and Bertha Palmer are the two most influential real estate visionaries in Sarasota County. Ringling and Palmer traveled to coastal towns in Europe, and they wanted to pay homage to the residential architecture and quality of life that is emblematic of Mediterranean resort villas.
Long before the master-planned development at Palmer Ranch became a reality, Bertha Palmer had chosen Osprey as her favorite site for a spectacular winter mansion with dozens of bedrooms. Palmer named her impressive property The Oaks, which later became The Oaks Club.
The upscale community of The Oaks Club is organized into three neighborhoods: Bayside, Clubside and Preserve. The most recently developed neighborhood at The Oaks Club is The Oaks Preserve, and this is where house hunters can find a greater diversity of real estate.
The Oaks Preserve neighborhood straddles a large creek that is surrounded by nature preserves. The properties range from imposing estates to spacious townhouses and from upscale condominiums to comfortable single-family residences. Waterfront units at The Meridian condominium tower are often in high demand because they offer spectacular views of the Gulf of Mexico and the Sarasota Keys. Prices at The Meridian start at $260K and can reach more than $1 million.
Single-family homes featuring at least three bedrooms and two bathrooms can be negotiated for as low as $295K. Many of the residences at The Oaks Preserve were developed by custom home builders, and they are located in the same section as Bishopscourt Townhomes, which offers a maintenance-free lifestyle.
The Oaks Preserve requires membership in The Oaks Club, which means that residents can enjoy golf, tennis, croquet, swimming, fitness, and more. The remodeled clubhouse features three fine-dining restaurants and space that can be reserved for social events. Although The Oaks Preserve is tucked away for the purpose of offering privacy in a relaxed atmosphere, the main gate connects to a busy commercial district with lots of shops and restaurants; the beaches of either Casey or Siesta Key are less than 15 minutes away.
