Siesta Isles in Sarasota : Homes for Sale on an Island Neighborhood

Most visitors to Siesta Key head straight to the incredible, dazzling white sands of the local beaches and never venture to explore the area behind the beachfront resorts.   This is where house hunters can find Siesta Isles, a quaint Sarasota neighborhood that is well-known among boaters in Southwest Florida.

Siesta Isles is the result of a clever civil engineering and real estate development project that started in the 1960s.  Dredging and filling operations created two islands surrounded by canals that connect to the Sarasota Bay.  Essentially, the Siesta Isles neighborhood consists of small islands within the larger barrier island of Siesta Key.

Over the decades, the Siesta Isles community has grown to nearly 300 single-family residences, many of them with swimming pools, private docking space and small fishing piers.  As expected, many of the homes in this neighborhood were built in the Florida ranch style of residential architecture, but some have been renovated following the Contemporary and Mediterranean styles.

The properties at Siesta Isles are moderately spacious.  An example of a cozy home in Siesta Isles would include three bedrooms and two full bathrooms built on 1,594 square feet; such a listing would typically be offered under $450K.  A more stately waterfront estate with four bedrooms, three bathrooms, a studio, large Florida room, and swimming pool can be found listed under $1.6 million.

Siesta Isles is a very scenic, tranquil and convenient neighborhood.  Walking to the beach takes about ten minutes, and this is where residents can find shopping, entertainment and nightlife.  Also within walking distance is Glebe Park, which is perfect for the entire family and not very well-known to tourists.  Boating and fishing are the two most common hobbies among residents of Siesta Isles, but it is important to note that a short trip on Siesta Drive is all it takes to reach Sarasota for golf, tennis, arts, culture, shopping, entertainment, and more.
