The Southbay Yacht and Racquet Club in Osprey has an interesting history. Osprey was home to a very popular amusement park that showcased some of Florida’s most appealing attractions. When Disney World moved to Orlando back in the early 1970s, the amusement park in Osprey closed its doors and began its development as a residential community. The transformation from recreational landmark to upscale neighborhood was completed in the 1980s, and Southbay has been a jewel of Southwest Florida real estate ever since.
There are more than 350 single-family residences at Southbay. Most homes follow an architectural style that is classic Southwest Florida, a mix of Mediterranean with Caribbean. Southbay is not a neighborhood prone to volatility in terms of sales and real estate values, and to this extent the pricing is stable. Home prices start at $295K for a three-bedroom and two-bathroom residence measuring 1,994 square feet. A four-bedroom and four-bathroom estate can be found for $945K. Some waterfront homes may command higher pricing than those that are more secluded by lush landscaping.
Southbay residents enjoy various amenities. Boating enthusiasts will relish the seven-acre marina, and everyone can bask in the swimming pool, tennis courts, fitness center, clubhouse, library, and even a hiking park. Nokomis Beach is just a short drive away, and nature lover can enjoy Florida’s flora and wildlife at the nearby Oscar Scherer State Park.
Southbay is right in between the cities of Sarasota and Venice, where all the conveniences of modern life can be easily found. School-age students can attend the nearby public Laurel Nokomis Elementary, Middle and Venice Senior High Schools. Gifted pupils can attend the prestigious Pine View School college-prep program.
