Southpointe Shores in Sarasota : Waterfront Lots & Homes for Sale

Of all the waterfront residential communities in Sarasota County, Southpointe Shores in Sarasota is one of the most celebrated.  This neighborhood, which was initially developed in the 1960s, is very attractive for homeowners who are passionate about boating, fishing and the Florida outdoors.

Southpointe Shores is located south of the Stickney Point causeway that connects Siesta Key to the Sunshine State.  Well-preserved native foliage hides this neighborhood from the bustle of traffic along the Tamiami Trail; in fact, Southpointe Shores is a designated bird sanctuary.  There are 112 single-family homes in this neighborhood, which is split into two sections with independent access from the Tamiami Trail.

Nearly all homes in Southpointe Shores have waterfront views; some are located on a canal and enjoy private dock space while other properties sit right on the shores of the Little Sarasota Bay.  Being a traditional Sarasota waterfront neighborhood, Southpointe Shores offers house hunters plenty of real estate diversity.  Some original Florida ranch-style homes with generous interior space can be found for under $500K, but most properties in this neighborhood have been dramatically renovated and upgraded.

The majority of the waterfront homes in Southpointe Shores have been remodeled in the last few years as Mediterranean estates, Key West homes and lavish residences custom-built on spec.  It is not unusual to find premium features such as swimming pools, sunset decks, large balconies, outdoor grills and more.  In 2105, five-bedroom waterfront estates built in 2007 could be negotiated for less than $1.7 million.  At any given time, home shoppers will find a handful of available listings in this neighborhood, and bidding tends to be very active.

Aside from boating and fishing, residents of Southpointe Shores enjoy going to the beach, which is just 10 minutes away.  Nearby attractions include golf courses, country clubs and county parks.  Numerous shopping and entertainment amenities can be found along the Tamiami Trail, which can be reached by means of a short walk.
