Although it is a historical subdivision in Sarasota County, not many people know about the collection of neighborhoods south of Beneva Road near the Westfield Sarasota Square Mall and west of the Tamiami Trail. Residential development in Vamo has taken place since the 1920s, which gives the neighborhoods a distinct appearance and offers house hunters a diversity of real estate to choose from.
Single-family homes in Vamo range from cozy bungalows to Florida ranch-style homes and from Spanish Mission styles to Mediterranean mansions. The real estate market is always active, and the listings can range from a historic two-bedroom and two-bathroom Old Florida house for less than $120,000 to a waterfront mansion overlooking the Sarasota Bay that can be negotiated for under a million dollars.
With the Little Sarasota Bay and Siesta Key right across from the Vamo shoreline, fishing is a popular activity among residents. Biking is also popular; many residents ride their bikes or walk to the Publix supermarket or even the Sarasota Square Mall. Potter Park and the Country Club of Sarasota are also nearby, as is the Stickney Point Bridge that connects Florida to the white sands of the Siesta Key beaches. Nature lovers can enjoy Oscar Scherer State Park just a few miles away.
Families, young professionals and some retirees reside at Vamo because of its convenient location and quiet surroundings. School-age residents of Vamo are served by the Sarasota County Public Schools District and can enroll in the prestigious Pine View School.
