In the 21st century, the City of Venice has undergone a transformation. Venice used to be mostly known as a beach resort town that attracted tourists, snowbirds and seasonal residents. These days, however, Venice is regarded as a city where families can grow and prosper while enjoying the offerings of the local housing market.
The unique Venice Farms neighborhood is a good example of the diverse real estate communities in Venice. This subdivision was developed in the 1920s with the intention of showcasing Florida’s rich agricultural heritage. Venice Farms once produced enough crops, dairy, eggs, and poultry to feed the entire city. The farms were eventually replaced by large country estates, and today Venice Farms is home to some of the most spectacular homes in Southwest Florida.
Venice Farms will appeal to home shoppers who like extra-large home sites in the countryside. The real estate opportunities here include a 102-acre horse ranch with a mansion that boasts eight bedrooms and 13 bathrooms, but there are also affordable Old Florida cottages with long, private driveways and picket fences priced under $260,000. Homeowners take advantage of the spacious home sites to add guest houses, swimming pools, gazebos, playgrounds, basketball half-courts, horse barns, vegetable gardens, and more.
This neighborhood offers lots of solace and privacy, but is by no means isolated. Venice Farms is very close to I-75, which can be accessed from Venice Avenue. Downtown Venice and the beaches are just minutes away, and residents do not have to travel far to find a Publix supermarket and other suburban comforts. Lovers of the outdoors can enjoy a freshwater creek that cuts through the neighborhood as well as two branches of the Myakka River.
Young residents of Venice Farms can attend Oak Park, Venice Middle and Garden Elementary of the Sarasota County Public Schools District.
