Sarasota is not the only center of arts and culture in Southwest Florida; over the last few years, a nascent arts scene has been developing in Bradenton. Village of the Arts is a historic subdivision located south of the Manatee Performing Arts Center.

The Village of the Arts in Bradenton is a testament to the positive influence that arts and culture can have on communities.  As late as 1999, this southern subdivision of Downtown Bradenton had been left behind in terms of development and urban planning; the area had fallen into blight and disrepair with a few abandoned homes.  A group of artists envisioned a community dedicated to the arts in this neighborhood; they took advantage zoning regulation that allowed homeowners to operate certain small businesses from their properties, and thus the Village of the Arts Bradenton was born.

Over the years, real estate and the arts have thrived in this neighborhood.  Many artists from Florida and from across the country have moved in and renovated many of the historic cottages and bungalows, which date back to the period between the 1920s and the 1950s.  These days, the Village of the Arts Bradenton is one of the most attractive subdivisions of Bradenton due to its art galleries, yoga studios, restaurants, pubs, cafes, markets, bakeries, and boutiques.

Real estate prices at the Village of the Arts start under $250K in late 2024 for a renovated two-bedroom with one bathroom.  The predominant architectural styles are Old Florida and New England; since many of the properties have been remodeled by artists, some of them feature interesting designs and lots of curb appeal. Members of this neighborhood’s redevelopment team have been careful to not fall into gentrification.  To this effect, working class families and artists live in harmony at the Village of the Arts.
