By the 1960s, Rockwell had invited the most innovative architects in Southwest Florida to build unique and sumptuous mansions on her slice of the island.
These days, Sandy Hook is an intimate enclave that combines the relaxed Gulf beach lifestyle with history and stylish architecture. Most of the properties are opulent mansions built in the Old Florida, Key West and Sarasota styles; a few smaller cottages and condos are also available, but they are not listed for sale very frequently and start around $1.5M in late 2024. Mary Rockwell’s architectural legacy means that many of the properties in Sandy Hook probably meet the criteria to enter the National Register of Historic Places. The neighborhood is very quiet and peaceful; the retirees and families who live here enjoy private beach access and being able to walk to the nearby Siesta Village shopping and entertainment center. Siesta Village has everything you need; from grocery stores to seafood restaurants like Captain Curt’s and even dental clinics, you will hardly be pressed to leave the island.
