You typically find the Spanish – Mediterranean architectural style in the warmer climates of the US like California, Texas and of course Florida. Most homes in Florida are built with concrete block because the strength it provides and it’s ability to keep the home cooler in the summer months. That concrete block is covered with stucco which is a key design in the Spanish – Mediterranean style along with tiled roofs.
The front exterior door or doors really make a huge statement in a Spanish – Mediterranean style home. Distressed and wooden with decorative carvings, wrought iron grills, an arched top and a speakeasy opening would be a great example of an entry door. Casement windows, beautifully landscaped courtyard entrances and a second story balcony with a wrought iron banister would round out the exterior of this architectural style.
Most of these homes, considering the climate, are going to have a swimming pool and quite possibly an outdoor kitchen. A pool modernizes this old world style a bit, but in a warm climate like Florida, we all could use a refreshing dip in the pool no matter what style of home.
