Palmetto is one of the most cinematic towns of Florida. With movies such as Great Expectations, Out of Time, Spring Breakers, and even the eponymously titled 1998 film Palmetto starring Woody Harrelson, only Miami can claim to be busier as a filming location in Florida. The reason so many filmmakers choose Palmetto for their productions is that this is a very photogenic location and the camera loves it.
House hunters looking for cinematic waterfront views of the Manatee River will certainly find them at Riviera Dunes, a large residential development consisting of five neighborhoods located on the northern banks of the river. The housing options at Riviera Dunes include single-family homes, low-rise apartment buildings, high-rise condominium towers, and waterfront townhouses; all properties are maintenance-free.
Life at Riviera Dunes centers around boating; a marina, a yacht club and a deep water basin are the main amenities of this community, which is also home to a dockside tiki lounge and a waterfront restaurant. Residents of the low-rise apartment buildings and condominium towers enjoy community swimming pools with exercise rooms and clubhouses; many of the single-family homes and townhouses also have docking rights at the marina. Walking trails, kayak launches, picnic grounds, and fishing spots in the riverfront round out the neighborhood amenities.
The real estate market is moderately active in Riviera Dunes. Homeowners tend to hold on to their properties. Pricing starts at $206K for two-bedroom condominium units, $275K for townhouses, and $325K for single-family homes. The top listings priced higher than $1 million are four-bedroom waterfront estates built in the Spanish Mediterranean style, and they include private docking space.
The Riviera Dunes neighborhoods are located on the eastern side of the Tamiami Trail, right at the point it becomes a bridge across the Manatee River that connects with the heart of Downtown Bradenton. The Palmetto town square is just blocks away, and a Wal-Mart Supercenter is within walking distance. Residents who keep their boats docked at Riviera Dunes can sail five nautical miles to the beaches of Anna Maria Island; they can also choose to drive to Holmes Beach, which is about seven miles away.
