New residential development in Southwest Florida continues, and this time a new home builder out of Georgia is entering the local housing market. Ashton Woods began developing in the late 20th century, and by 2011 it was ranked among the top 10 private home builders in the United States. The Atlanta-based builder recently purchased 18 acres near Richardson Road in Sarasota for its new Whitaker Park subdivision.
Ashton Woods plans to develop Whitaker Park into a residential neighborhood of 91 homes. Floor plans will range from three to five bedrooms and pricing is tentatively expected to be set between $200K and $400K. Ashton Woods is no stranger to Southwest Florida; some of its floor plans like the modest Lido and the sumptuous Siesta and St. Armand can be appreciated at the Rosedale Golf and Country Club in Bradenton.
Whitaker Park will consist of 91 single-family residences. Living space will start at 1,700 square feet for the three-bedroom models up to 3,000 square feet for the five-bedroom homes. Details on amenities are not available at this time, but Ashton Woods is known to include family-oriented features in its neighborhoods such as parks, nature walks, swimming pools, and more.
The builder’s architectural design of its Florida homes in Orlando and Tampa is inclined towards the Mediterranean revival style that has become a staple of Southwest Florida. Whitaker Park will be located relatively close to the downtown area of Sarasota, and it will feature three shopping centers nearby: Colonial Village, Merchant Pointe and Northeast Plaza. Easy access to I-75 will connect neighbors with Lakewood Ranch to the north and Venice to the south. Upscale shopping and entertainment at St. Armands, as well as the white-sandy beaches of Siesta Key, are a short drive away.
