Not all home buyers are cut out for living inside the walls of a gated community where cookie cutter architectural styles are part of their deed restrictions. If your ideal lifestyle is more aligned with a traditional suburban atmosphere, you should consider Cedar Hollow in Sarasota, the Fruitville district.
Located between the Palm-Robarts Memorial Park and McIntosh Middle School, Cedar Hollow resulted from the rezoning of The Groves, a small subdivision that used to sit within an orange grove; in fact, many of the properties here have mature citrus trees in their backyards. You can only enter the neighborhood from two entrances on Honore Avenue, which means that you do not have to worry about excessive through traffic.
Cedar Hollow was developed in the mid-1980s, a time when Florida ranch-style homes dominated residential architecture around Sarasota. Most of the homes in this community feature this style, but many have been renovated and updated through the years. The lots tend to be more spacious than what you usually find in newer homes, and you can count on finding properties with nice extras such as private swimming pools, summer kitchens, sundecks, and playgrounds. The layout of the streets minimizes traffic thanks to numerous cul-de-sacs, and generous front yard space motivates homeowners to put on elaborate Christmas lights displays.
There are no homeowners association fees to worry about in Cedar Hollow, but the entire community always looks immaculate thanks to neighborhood pride. If you plan to raise a family in a place where children can safely ride their bikes to nearby schools, you should be putting this neighborhood at the top of your house hunting list.
Other advantages of Cedar Hollow include living just a couple minutes south of the Sarasota Crossings shopping plaza on Fruitville Road, where you can find a Target store along with a Publix supermarket and various restaurants. The 17th Street Paw Park for pets is just five minutes away, and driving to the beaches of Siesta Key will take you less than 30 minutes. In 2021, you should be able to find two and three-bedroom Cedar Hollow homes listed for less than $300K.
