Located near the northwest quadrant of the Bobby Jones Golf Club, Glen Oaks Manor Sarasota has a history that denotes its strong roots. The original owner of the subdivision was American circus magnate John Ringling, whose own real estate dreams were closer to Siesta Key and Downtown Sarasota, but this is where the winter home of his renowned circus was located. Residential development started in the late 1970s with less than 200 homes built in an interesting style that combines the Florida ranch with the Sarasota School of modern architecture.
Even though the developers of Glen Oaks Manor Sarasota are mostly known for their tract housing projects in other Sarasota subdivisions, their vision for this neighborhood was different; they decided to protect large portions of the mature forest and separate the neighborhood from the nearby Kensington Park district. As a result, many people driving on 17th Street heading towards Downtown Sarasota either miss the neighborhood or think it is a corporate park.
The homes at Glen Oaks Manor Sarasota are actually modern villas arranged along lakes and within forest preserves. Very large oak trees with dense canopies provide year-round cool shade to the villas, many of them hidden behind lush landscaping. The interesting floor plans in this neighborhood consist of plain and boxy exteriors that contrast with lavish interiors that include courtyards, foyers, and discreet verandas.
In late 2024, pricing of Glen Oaks Manor villas started under $400K for two-bedroom and two-bathroom properties with more than 1,700 square feet of living space. Over the years, residents of this neighborhood have distinguished themselves with handsome upgrades to their villas, some of them featuring private swimming pools, elegant garden trails that connect to forest meadows, and even murals painted by local artists.
