When you think about what a residential beach resort should be, Pelican Harbour Longboat Key should tick all the relevant boxes. As one of the few neighborhoods in the island where homeowners enjoy both shorelines, the Gulf of Mexico and Sarasota Bay, Pelican Harbour is located right in the middle of Longboat Key but on the Manatee County side, which means that property taxes are more affordable.
The history of this established beachfront community dates back to the early 1970s, when a few townhouses were built along the Sarasota Bay. Over the years, the neighborhood expanded across Gulf of Mexico Drive, the main thoroughfare of Longboat Key, with more villas plus a low-rise condominium tower. Native species were planted at the time, and they have grown into a nice patch of banyan trees, sawgrass, bougainvillea, palmettos, and Florida wildflowers.
Even though Pelican Harbour Longboat Key is not a large community, it feels very expansive thanks to the arrangement of the amenities and the spacing between the properties. Virtually all condo units, villas, and townhouses have views of the water; in fact, the units on the upper floors of the low-rise condo tower offer views of both the Sarasota Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. If you are looking for one of these penthouse-like units late 2024, you can expect them to be listed for about $1.3 million. A renovated townhouse on the bay side of Pelican Harbour was listed in September for $575K; we are talking about a two-bedroom and two-bathroom property with granite countertops, new hardwood flooring, and a covered lanai that faces the water. Latest pricing at Pelican Harbour Longboat Key will be found below if there is inventory.
As can be imagined, the white sandy beaches of Longboat Key are the main amenity of Pelican Harbour. If you live on the west side of the island, the beach is just a few steps away. Even if you live on the bay side, you only have to cross the street to reach the sand. The rest of the amenities, which are on the eastern side of the community, include a heated swimming pool, a fishing pier, kayak launch, tennis courts, and a clubhouse. Boats up to 28 feet can be privately docked for the lowest monthly fees in all of Sarasota County.
Living in Pelican Harbour means that you do not have to venture off the island for shopping. The Greenwise Publix supermarket at the Bay Isles Plaza is just five minutes away, and this is where you can also find a bank, post office, drugstore, bars, restaurants, and cafes.
