San Michele Sarasota is a community that was developed with a certain degree of risk to the developers. The 130 townhomes of San Michele started construction in 2007, a time when the Sarasota housing market had yet to begin its miraculous recovery. The buyers who secured properties back then are very happy with their San Michele purchases, and it is easy to understand why.

Located a few miles east of the airport in North Sarasota, San Michele is in the upscale University Commons district, which means that it is close to various colleges and shopping centers. San Michele consists of 24 buildings arranged around two lakes that offer scenic views for most homeowners. The residential architecture is inspired by the Spanish Mediterranean style; the townhomes are adorned with white columns, porches and courtyards that lead to landscaped walking paths.

San Michele is ideal for families and senior homeowners. Each townhome offers three bedrooms and two bathrooms. Depending on the location, the units measure between 1,562 to 1,661 square feet of living space. Some of the units have been upgraded in the last few years with hardwood floors, Corian counters, crown molding, custom cabinetry, and breakfast nooks.

Although the ownership arrangement at San Michele is not controlled by an association, this is a maintenance-free community that requires a reasonable monthly fee to cover the landscaping and upkeep of the common areas. The amenities include green areas, a swimming pool with clubhouse, a playground, and a couple of tennis courts.

Although the University Town Center is the main shopping attraction, San Michele residents enjoy living down the road from a Publix supermarket and a Wal-Mart Supercenter. There are also cafes and casual restaurants located along University Parkway just a few blocks to the south.
