Development of this subdivision dates back to the 1950s; it was part of an effort to attract veterans returning home from World War II, and it was also meant to give Venice more character as an American city at a time when it was mostly known as a coastal resort.
The boundaries of Venice Gardens start with the Tamiami Trail in the west, Jacaranda Boulevard to the east, and Center Road to the north. The nearest golf courses, Pelican Pointe and Venice East, attract retirees, seasonal residents, and avid golf players. This part of town is filled with lakes, canals, and greenbelt spaces that attract birds and other wildlife. Venice Gardens residents enjoy living close to shopping districts near Jacaranda Boulevard, where you can find a Winn Dixie supermarket, and Tamiami Trail, where you can shop at Lowe’s, Petco, Office Depot, and other stores. Caspersen Beach is close enough to visit on a daily basis; this family-friendly spot does not get crowded like Venice Beach.
