During World War II, Whitney Beach was a resort for the American military, and it served in this capacity until the late 1950s. A few units are villas that have direct access to the beach, and the overall ambiance is intimate and relaxed.

Whitney Beach occupies 10 acres of the island. The amenities are a strong selling point; residents enjoy their own boat dock complete with fishing pier and a large station where the day’s catch can be cleaned prior to lunch or dinner. There are three swimming pools with tiki huts, beach lounge area, a conservatory structure ideal for painting and writing, tennis courts, and garden paths. Monthly homeowners association dues are in line with other resort-style communities.

As of late 2024, pricing at Whitney Beach started under $500K, one of the most attractive real estate offerings on Longboat Key. Only a handful of properties come on the market each month, and they tend to sell quickly thanks to its prime location and amenities. Whitney Beach is located blocks away from beach taverns, cafes and restaurants; the island’s main shopping center at Bay Isles, about a mile away, features a new Publix supermarket.
